Amew is the intermediary for the client. All funeral Benefits are provided by Amew to the client.  Amew is the beneficiary and claims on the clients from the underwriter. Amew will make payment to the beneficiary on the nomination for the “cash” option. Amew is underwritten by several Underwriters and licenced by the FSCA.

A 6 month waiting period will apply if the applicant has no chronic sickness. If the applicant has a chronic sickness, a different waiting period may apply or a loading on the premium. 

By checking the tick-box in our online application or by signing the paper application form, you agree to our terms and conditions and declare that you have been truthful and that funeral benefits are only valid if Amew is doing the funeral unless you have a cash benefit.  For all debit orders deducted by Amew (via Netcash), an admin fee of R7 per debit order will be added to your premium.

Benefits
AMEW provides both Funeral Cash Benefits and a funeral service or cremation. The client can choose which benefit/option the client wants.

Cover Amount
• Our Cash Plan stand alone benefit currently covers from R5000 to R10000 18-60.
• Our standard funeral plan service has a monetary value of R6000 including Admin and planning cost.
Our entry age is from 18 to 84.

Waiting periods
For ages 18-74 the waiting period is 6 months
For ages 75-94 the waiting period is 12 months
For high risks clients who there is reason to believe that they are involved in gangs or drug related activities the waiting period is 9 months.
• Immediate cover is available in the event of death caused by unnatural causes after 30 days of the first premium being paid.

Terms and Conditions
• Each principle member/ Contracting Party must complete an application form and sign it.
• By signing our application form which is attached to our terms and conditions the client accept our terms and conditions. When you choose a funeral plan you are oblige to use AMEW funeral services or else you must opt for the cash plan. By signing your application form you agree that AMEW funerals is the designated Parlour to provide the funeral services as per your plan. If you choose to have a cremation and not a funeral you must disclose at inception stage your preference and then you must choose a Cash plan cover to be used for the cremation.
• Throughout the term of this policy, if a premium is not paid when due there will be 30 days to pay the outstanding premium.
• If the premium is not paid within that month, the cover will stop and the client cannot claim. However, after the policy has been in force for 1 year, the grace period will be extended by 1 month for each 12 months period the policy has been in force.
• Premiums is payable in advance (the beginning of each month) to AMEW at the rate and premium specified in the contract/schedule.
• If outstanding premiums is not paid within 30 days of the grace period AMEW hold the right to cancel your policy.
• Upon death of the lives assured under this policy, notice of the claim together with the necessary documents must be submitted within 6 months of the date of death.
• No medical examinations are necessary to join but chronic sickness and serious illness must be reported at inception of the policy.
• Honesty is required when the application form is being filled in.
• This is not a paid up policy and policy ends when lives represented on application form covered dies.
• The Cash back every 4 years has been discontinued as from 1 February 2021.
• Cover commences after the first premium is received by the Insurer. With inception, if your first premium is not received by the 1oth of that month no contractual agreement is in force.
• By signing your application form you agree that AMEW is the designated funeral parlour for the funeral services benefit unless you opt for a cash benefit.

Intermediary Services
AMEW serves as the intermediary between the client and the Insurer. The Intermediary receives the client premiums and pays it to the insurer. AMEW also receives the claim from the Insurer and pays it to the beneficiary on the nomination form in the event of a claim. By signing the application form the client agrees that AMEW is the beneficiary that receives the claim from the Underwriter and then pays the claim over to the Nominated beneficiary as per Nomination from. When AMEW pays a claim to the nominated beneficiary AMEW will waive the bank charges in that transaction.
• Clients are asked to arrange their own debit order with their bank for the premium/s to be debited.
• When cash deposits is made the client is responsible for the banking cost as per the Long term Insurance act.
• Clients can alternatively make payment (pay their premium) at Shoprite.
• The collection of premiums at the premise of the client must be arranged/negotiated with AMEW and if it is agreed the client must remember that it remains the client’s responsibility to keep the premiums should the responsible person for collection is delayed or does not come on the agreed date for any unforeseen reason.
• We still prefer that clients make use of a Debit order payment first or Shoprite.
Surrender Values
This policy has no surrender value and may not be ceded or pledged in any way. No loans will be granted against this policy.

Cancellation
The member as well as AMEW has the right to cancel this policy at any time after giving the other party 1 months’ written notice of such intentions.

Complaints
If the client have a complaint or grievance against AMEW the client must make contact with AMEW in person or by telephone. If the complaint is not resolved the complainant must put the complaint in writing to AMEW’S compliance department. Email your compliant to raglan@amew.org.za. The complaint will be investigated and feedback will be given to the client. If the client is not satisfied with the complaint the client can approach the Ombudsman for Long term Insurance: info@ombud.co.za

General
Children is covered until age 21 years unless evidence of full-time study is produced they are covered until age 25years. Entry at age 85 is only allowed as extended family if the principle member is age 18-64. When a member want to increase their cover or plan the increased amount/benefit will have a 6 calendar month waiting period. No claims in respect of grandchildren or foster children will be considered unless proof of legal adoption has been provided. No claim will be paid if the client is in arrears or short paid. It remains the client’s responsibility to see that the information given is correct at the time of the inception of his/her policy. Divorced spouses are not covered under family category. New cover must be taken out for divorced ex-spouses. Spouses is recognised as a legal civil marriage with marriage certificate. Common law spouses must have the required documents to be considered as spouses upon application.
